Since 1986, teams of experienced teachers of all grade levels and disciplines from Milwaukee area Charter Schools and Milwaukee Public Schools, as well as schools in Wauwatosa, Germantown, Brown Deer, Lake Geneva, New Berlin and Jefferson have attended the Milwaukee Writing Project's Invitational Summer Institute.  This summer for the first time, teachers will experience the Institute at the Milwaukee Art Museum.  Participants will receive Carroll graduate credit as they prepare to assume leadership roles in the teaching of writing for their schools and districts.

At the institute teachers demonstrate their most effective practices, examine research, and improve their knowledge of writing by becoming better writers themselves. Supported by the Milwaukee Writing Project, the teachers take best practices back to their schools where they act as leaders in writing instruction.
The Milwaukee Writing Project will conduct its annual Invitational Summer Institute at the Milwaukee Art Museum in June and July 2009 and 2010.

Following the National Writing Project's model for Summer Institutes and professional development programs, the Milwaukee Writing Project at Carroll University has been helping to develop local leadership since 1985.  Thousands of teachers and students in southeastern Wisconsin, in Kindergarten through High School and in all content areas, have benefited from this national model of teachers teaching teachers.

Carroll University is able to offer a reduced Graduate tuition fee for participants, underwritten by the  Federal grant from the National Writing Project.
