Initiatives

Specific initiatives of the Milwaukee Writing Project include the following:

* In-service courses in Writing Workshop, Reading Workshop, Writing Across the Curriculum, Differentiated Instruction, Writing in the Standards-Based Classroom, Technology and the Writing Process, Writing Assessment Strategies, and all aspects of the Writing Process.

* Forums and workshops focusing on how to support and improve parent involvement in education through the Parent Project. Developed by the Milwaukee Writing Project, the Parent Project is a workshop approach to parent involvement and has been named one of six exemplary "parents as first teachers" national programs by the US Dept. of Education.

Many Milwaukee Writing Project courses and workshops are offered in partnership with individual schools and districts. Professional development opportunities, through Carroll University,  available for open enrollment include:

EDU 691 M1 Teachers as Writers Retreat ~ offered at the Milwaukee Art Museum

EDU 671 Understanding Self, Race, Class and Gender to Leverage Student Achievement ~ an online writing course for urban educators
